Unpacking my journey: Arbinger Developing and Implementing an Outward Mindset

This past week I was able get certified as a facilitator for Developing and Impelmenting an Outward Mindset from the Arbinger Institute. If you're not familiar with the Outward Mindset concept, here's an overview video:

My teammates who have been through training with the Arbinger Institute before all went to Utah to attend the course and facilitator training in person. All of them spoke so highly of those experiences and how impactful thier time was. I attended this training virtually and I wondered if my experience would be as profound. It was!

Even though we were virtual, I felt that I got to know many of the participants since we had a lot of break out time over our three days together. I also loved that we got a chance to facilitate the content and hear it facilitated multiple times. I left this train the trainer experience feeling prepared and excited. I'm also just excited to use these tools with my team.

My master trainer was amazing! His storytelling, advice, and feedback were so helpful. He prepared us for our first few sessions, but also gave us additional information and context that we can bring in once we are more comfortable with the content. Thank you for a wonderful and impactful three days, Danny!

One odd thing for me and a few other folks in the training were the instructions for just reading many of the slides. From the beginning of my time as a trainer I have been told not to do that for many reasons. The only reason it works for some of the Arbinger content is the slides building the context of the content and the low amount of text on the slides. Even when reading what is on the slide, there is a story to be told and focusing on that story is the most important part. In my teachbacks I was able to practice my inflection and emotion with the content, so it didn't feel like I was just reading the slides.

I'll keep you updated on my progress as I continue my facilitation prep and start actually facilitating the content. I'm really excited to go through the facilitator training for Outward Inclusion later this year.
